I meant to write a post about this ages ago! When I watched Finding Neverland earlier this year I realised that he is the perfect choice to play the part of Freddie Mercury, if they ever decided to make a film of his life. And then came the promotional stills for Charlie and the Chocolate factory (review coming soon!); his hair really sparked off my imagination! I made up a few comparison pictures but I dont know where they went. There were some very good stills from Finding Neverland. I think the above picture is quite good though because it shows off their facial similarities and Freddie has a bit of that Willy Wonka hair going on! Of course Depps face is a bit too petite for Freddies but thats a small issue (oh the puns!), more importantly he has some of the mannorisms and the talent to carry it off.
Anyway, this is the kind of thing that 'Podge and Roge' should be getting into, and not that We Will Rock You malarky. So come on Roger, Brian has his musical, you should get into the film business: "The Life and Times of Freddie Mercury - Starring, Johnny Depp as Freddie Mercury - Directed by

wow. isn't it weird how you posted this in 2005, and now they're actually going to make a freddie mercury film, possible casting johnny depp as freddie mercury. very strange.
I only posted it then but I had formulated the idea a year previous. I've heard a few other people mention the same casting idea since this post.
I think its a fairly obvious choice really, but in reflection, it might be better if the part went to a new upcoming actor or perhaps an established singer (Matt Bellamy :)
The two people i look up to im my life are coming together. Johnny inspired me to want to direct and Freddie inspires me period. Could you imagine my complete awe when i heard this. i was shaking. i have extreme faith in johnny to do this right. Freddie would like him, i like to think. ^^
I wholeheartedly agree. The possible casting of Johnny Depp in a film about the legendary Freddie Mercury couldn't be more perfect.
Not only could Johnny pull of the dramatics and really get inside his personality and mime his songs seamlessly but with a little make up he would also look the absolute spitting image of the late QUEEN singer a since he already bares a strong resemblance to him to begin with.
Personally, I can't think of one other actor who is better suited to the role than him.
This film sounds like it will be a HUGE worldwide hit which will break box office records everywhere and will no doubt be literally showered with oscar nominations when it is finally released.
Speaking as a huge QUEEN fan myself that day can't come quick enough.
It's been a while since I've written this. I think I might revise my choice now. Amy Winehouse should play Freddie, if she cleaned her act up I mean.
Because of youtube a lot of young people are re-discovering Queen and of course are saying amazing things about Freddie Mercury. Several comments on the resemblance between Freddie & Johnny. I have to agree with them. They have similar eyes, nose, dark features, same height. If Johnny wants to really prove himself this would be the most challenging role yet.
