Irish Roads

Irish speed limits recently went metric and in an effort to ease people into the kph mindset an add campaign was launched. It included a tv add where a young woman was driving a truck along a motorway; nothing to get upset about there you say. What struck me as strange however was the trucks speedometer which showed, 120kph. This is very questionable as the speed limit for vehicles over 3 tonnes (lol so much for going metric) is 80kph. They popped it up on the screen; the poor speedometer was nearly maxed out. So why would an add designed to show people being aware of the new speed limits include this horrendous breach of motoring law I'll never know.

While investigating a possible answer for this anomaly I came across the above image which I presume depicts a genuine sign on the M11. Now what could be wrong with this you ask; nothing I say but its laughably misleading. You would imagine (if you weren't from Ireland or had a vulgar lack of interest in Irish geography) that the motorway led to Rosslare or at least brought you fairly close to Rosslare. Click on the it above to see why its ridiculous.

This even shocked me when I made it. New York's total urban area is roughly the same length of motorway Ireland doesn't have!

Windows XP Game Advisor

Not sure how accurate this test is, its really just a fancy stats. machine, nothing more. I tried out a few titles on my laptop and I was fairly happy with the results. The scale measure is weird though. It seems that you your computers flag point is put on first and then the min and recommended flags are adjusted accordingly. So when I tested Doom 3 on my latop, my laptop's rating was on the highest bar but the minimum spec for Doom 3 was just to the left of it. Other games were rated pretty much as I expected but I wouldnt buy a game based on it's results.

Check out the rest of this guys site! He has some crazy stuff to try. I'm trying out the USB poo project tomorrow.

Root - Lewey's World

Fantastic site full of homemade goodies! I came across it while looking for SIRD images on google. The owner, Lewey Geselowitz, has come up with some juicey programs including the easiest to use 3D creation tool I've come across. Sure, it isnt Bryce or anything but its great fun to play with! There are some great SIRD applications too, like a SIRD based pong game and even a SIRD Quake 2 mod! Be sure to check out the UNIX commands he's wrapped up into DOS batch files. Now you can "ls" a Windows directory to your hearts content, if thats what floats your boat!

According to some crappy flash animation on kontraband.com.

This is the one thing I really don't get with Windows XP: three big colourful roundy buttons for stand-by, turn off and restart but all they have for cancel is this grey crappy thing. It's neat and tidy I guess.

Blinx 2

Finally got around to playing Blinx 2 on the xbox (I got given it from a friend at Christmas lol). It's a wonderful game to play, totally addictive and possessing a strong re-playability value! Perhaps its slightly guilty of diluting its original feel and storyline with a dash genericalness but only at a cost of it being much easier and fun to play!

Reflection on kitchen tiles. Nothing special, no more than a quick snap (best out of 7) but it might be an interesting future study (if that horse ever decides to come back!). Fast film speed used since there was no time to set up a tripod and I wanted a larger apature setting; I'd like a full DOF if I reshot it.
