play.com again

Yeah, another picture of a play.com webpage, this time its worthwhile though. Theyre having their January sale right now and lots of things have money off. I spotted a book going cheap; didnt know whether to laugh or cry! Couldnt find one for Sri Lanka that cheap though.

I did something similar for last years sale. I know Windows can be a bit of a puzzle at times but its hardly a game!

Post Christmas

So Christmas is over; 12 days me arse, Christmas is over! I ate far too much and indeed felt sick for 3 days. A traditional Christmas however i.e. arguments and bad television. Thankfully no murders, not like the poor family in Cavan, and the arguments in question stayed well away from me.

I watched some DVD’s that I bought just for Christmas. First off is Muse’s new Live video titled the “Absolution Tour” but its really just footage of the Glastonbury concert with a few bits tacked on in the extras. Muse are great though aren’t they! And while I enjoyed watching the concert I couldn’t help but feel that they only started to get going with “Plug in Baby” the penultimate song. On a second viewing though its not so apparent but I still enjoy that version of Plug in Baby a lot! :-)

Matt Bellamy just after doing a Freddie Mercury impression, or something...

One thing that still bugged me however was the playing of “Magic Moments” Blackout as an encore. Man what a depressing way to end a concert. And its not just because I hate the song. One other thing, all the steam coming up from the crowd was absolutely disgusting!

I also watched the Chick Corea Elektric Band: Live at Montreux 2004 video I bought before Christmas. Now this was more like it, none of that Cork Opera House stuff. Of course if I was actually there on the night I’d have felt just the same if not worse as the “To the Stars” album hadn’t been released at the time of the concert so the audience were in the dark as to the music being played. Excellent DVD anyway, powerful stuff!

I attempted to watch Bad Santa, I might try it again when I’m not so easily bored.

Just this morning I watched “Barbie: Fairytopia” on RTE2. What does it say about RTE programming when I say it was the most enjoyable thing shown over Christmas; more interestingly what does it say about me! lol Honestly though, it was really nice to watch, like a brain massage! I could imagine “Turning on – Tuning in and dropping out” to this after a bad day in the office. Barbie plays Elina, a flower fairy with no wings…. I chose not to concern myself with the logistics of a toy character acting within a CGI cartoon as another character. This film had it all; faries, magic flower houses, mermaids, a babbling furry side kick thing which for the first time in a film a babbling furry side kick thing that didn’t annoy me, twinkly music, evil things, very few male characters (that mermaid guy, he was being a little “too” nice, I’ll sort him out later; I’ll bread his arse then fry him on a pan), and I have to say that Elina is definitely a very pretty fairy! :-)

Deep Purple Stuff

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
I really like this album actually! When Jon Lord left Deep Purple I had totally written off the band. I bought Bananas just to complete my collection. While it wasn’t awful (oh God, a few bars of that ‘Haunted’ rubbish just came back into my head…. arrggghhh the backing singers!!! *shudder*) it was just as expected, fairly dull with the old music by numbers approach. Contact Lost, the last song on Bananas was very nice though, that has to be said. I gave away my copy of the album though, the mastering was truly pathetic (I like my music not to blow my speakers due to clipping thanks!). So it was out of pure morbid curiosity that I stole a copy of Rapture of the Deep off of eMule two nights ago. Well I must say I was surprised by what I heard. Dare I say its reminiscent of Perfect Strangers? Well at times anyway, the title track in particular. Ok a few of the tracks strike me as purely filler but the others range from fine to terrific! ‘Clearly Quite Absurd’, the equivalent to ‘Haunted’ on this album, is wonderful! If Gillan wrote the lyrics to it, he redeems himself fully from the cringe inducing spoken line at the end of the last track ‘Before Time Began’. Its a pity I have to stop the song before the line comes up, its one of my favourites! I must add that overall production sounds fantasmastic and the drums in particular sound spot on, and thankfully Ian Paice doesn’t sound like a drum machine any more, with the odd flourish here and there. Don Airey fits right in on this album, Jon Lordy kinda, but not all the time. He even has a go at some Keith Emerson in his solo on Before Time Began! So good stuff anyway, I went into the city today and bought a copy because piracy is wrong! :-) Oh one last thing, whats with the cover art!? Its kinda crappy!

Well from that to this. Masters from the Vaults is just cack! They take the excellent but heavily cut video footage from Doing There Thing and chop more bits out of it!!! Theres a few other odds and ends thrown in with some dodgy spellings on the titles and that’s all grand for 40 minutes. Then they start showing footage from an Ian Gillan concert! WTF? And then to be subjected to seeing Gillans arse in those red trousers, yikes! Yeah mighty stuff alright!

A nicer still from Masters from the Vaults... Jon Lord pulling out his drawbars... you know, on his organ.

Merry Crustmas Banner

Just made a little banner link to the Merry Crustmas picture in the titlebar. I didnt want it getting swamped by all the Blarney Castle pictures :-)

Blarney Castle

Well I'm getting up to date with the updates; Halloween 2005 just before Christmas 2005! I visited Blarney Castle on Monday 31st October and took a few pics with my phone.

This is the only picture of worth. I found a sliver of a ticket for the McCoy Tyner Trio concert held in the Cork Opera House the previous night. Like the ticket ripper, I was at the show and then at Blarney Castle the following day, but why would anyone come to Cork, Ireland even, see a concert and then rip up your ticket? I mean the concert wasnt that bad!

Christmas eh?

Oh yeah its Christmas now, should put something festive in I guess.... umm... here have a picture I whipped up for last year on. Holy Toast! Theres a story behind it....

It's official: My life can't get any more exciting!

Having a look around play, noticed an item I bought a few months back and clicked on it for the hell of it. It was a Christian Vander dvd, who? Yeah exactly! Then I noticed the bit "Other customers also bought etc.". They list 4 others I bought from play.com, fairly rare again, so obviously I was the only one who bought this dvd. That made me feel like a man for a week I tell you!

Busy Again

So this college project thing I'm doing, kinda getting most of my time now. At least I'm begining to enjoy it at last... who knew compilers could be so hard lol good fun now though.

Any fans out there reading my blog (There must be at least one person who somehow managed to find it, hello to you anyway!) will notice that I removed my entry about the Chick Corea concert. I withdrew it cos I read some startling information about the setlist. Aparently they played Night Streets from "My Spanish Heart"... I know that album inside out, and I know I wasnt gelling with concert very well at times but how could I miss that?! And Rhythm A-Ning as an encore? I thought it was Spain?! That infromation I read was either totally bogus or I was more out of it than I thought. I still blame the fact that the first pieces of music on the night were new to everyone. Maybe that review of mine will resurface soon... we'll see.

Saw the Transporter 2 a few weeks back. The fast and the Furious was more realistic. Pity, cos when I saw the new Audio A8 at the start I thought to myself "Hey for once a film that might actaully be believable...." how mistaken I was. Awful stuff, but I go in for free... thanks to a friend :)

Any more news? Hmmmm.... no.
