LOST - {no spoilers}

Ok so theres a horse in an episode but thats all I'll say about it.

Anyway, there I was watching episode 9 of season 2 when I see this hand in a black glove floating around the edge of the screen. I was spooked! I thought "wow, freaky shit man!" and waited for a great reveal in the next scene... there was none though! In confusion I rewinded and watched the scene again, it then dawned on me that I was actually watching a goof and that was the horse trainers hand in shot. Damn, I was hoping the "others" had shown up, in style!

1.4 Polo vs. 530i

Back on the Google Video circuit again, this time without copyright problems but even more illeagal! :) Enjoy this acceleration test i performed between a 1.4 automatic Volkswagen Polo and an automatic BMW 530i.

The video starts just as I kickdown in the Polo at 40kph. 8 seconds later you can hear me kickdown in the BMW, again at 40kph. Both reach 80mph at the same time! :)

A New Begining

Back again! An eventful few weeks, and an “interesting” post that I paused on… well it was a nice sword I guess :) While visiting Green I decided to include elouai.com pictorial portrait of me on this blog too. It's kinda like me, the clothes are almost right, but the hair was a bit of a problem because they had no crewcut image, just a slaphead, so I had to paint stubble myself :) Ironically, I think it looks more like me when I used a certain full hair type... go figure! anyway…

Familiarity leads one to believe that things last forever; that what was here the day before will be here the day after, allowing one to blissfully whittle away the hours of today.

To lose one close friend is a tragedy, to lose a second in under a year just seems unfair. And although the situations were different, in the end, they both just faded away.

He was there for me after my first loss, now he’s the one that’s gone and it seems everyone else is busy getting on with their own lives. Its not that they don’t care, its just that they don’t have the time; the time to make it feel casual.

Both now gone for good, but for different reasons. Nostalgically remembering the good times and honestly recapping the bad. All I can do is pine, and keep them pictured within me, but leave the whittling for another day and get on with the now.

Van Helsing

I watched Van Helsing last night; I gave a summary of the movie below.

Eli Roth to direct Cell (2007)

I saw that movie Hostel today; one of the best films I've ever seen! Thats what I would be saying if the film was just the last half hour of itself! The first hour is just an obnoxious teen movie with drugs and tits all over the place! Whoopdefuck! Wheres the horror? The last half an hour is sheer class though!

***Spoilers***

This is one of the most racist movies I've seen in a long time. I cant wait to join the Slovakian police force. It seems that Slovakian Police officers have it good! Conspiring with murder gangs and dragging people out of their cars at checkpoints just cos they felt like giving someone a good beating. Well you can't expect them to chase after the gangs of vicious 7 year olds that terrorize Slovakia now can you? Ummm... oh yeah, they don't speak dutch in Holland, no aparently Hitler won the war after all and everyone in Holland speaks German. The Japanese can't pronounce their R's, even though I thought that was just a urban myth... oh well they can at least pronounce the word "Train" however as a line in the movie went "I'm velly solly; I will catch the train tomollow".

The movie starts half an hour from the end, we get all the action and horror and gore from then on. Even the music picks up! We also get the random police beatings (oh man, thats what the Gardai need to do; to "stop the bloody slaughter" on the roads, beat random people! That will cut the nonsense on the roads anyway!) Theres stuff in there I didnt expect in a mainstream movie, its all good! Theres even a train suicide throw in for no other reason than for a good splattering. Man, it was like watching a new Fulci movie or something! If only the first hour was like this too instead of that stupid whorefest!

And the two hot temptress girls? They were far more savage withOUT makeup!

**********

Buy your ticket and wait in the lobby for an hour before the "real" movie begins!

Ok so what I had wanted to say was that the director of Hostel, Eli Roth has been given the green light to direct the film version of Stephen Kings Cell. It's a long book, and there's no tits and ass in it, and thats how I want it to stay!

I just finished [listening to] the book. Its the first book by King that I've consumed in about a year and its the first new book of his that I've read in years. To sum it up without spoilers: good start, possibly the quickest King novel to get into the "meat" of things that I've read; lots of gore! Theres blood and arteries and lumps of hair flying everywhere; First half of the book was gripping but it kinda dropped away after that but with a solid ending in the final chapter. I found myself questioning the direction the storyline took at times, even at times moaning "not again"; theres some very stereotypical King stuff in here.

***Plot***

People using their cell/mobile phones suddenly go mental and start acting like mindless but fast and vicious zombie like beings.

***Minor Spoilers***

I'd love to know how many readers smiled when that dark haired pixie girl smacked off the pole and busted her face. Or when the other one got smacked in the head with the paperweight... bloody girly girls, literally! :)

***Spoilers***

So its just another long journey story from King. The movie 28 Days Later was in there at times, thankfully it steers clear early on (no sex mad army officers, mercifully!). Anyway thats all ok but...

***Super Spoilers***

... did he have to rip off his own work so much? This was The Stand all over again, just with a different start and a smaller explosion at the end!!! There was no need whatsoever for the Shinning abilities in this storyline. When the whole Hive collective mind and music coming out of their mouths entered the picture I just sighed... I guess its his trademark but it was going so well without having Harvard popping up doing a Dr. Spock on every second page!

It was a pity Alice died, she was annoying at times but that Jordon kid deserved it more! Anyway, I had a feeling crucification awaited the two boyos in the car that killed her, it just seemed right and its exactly what they got.

Other reviewers complained that the book didnt finish, wanting to know when the second half will be published. Or that it failed to explain what caused the Pulse to begin with. Wow thats kinda cool, a book about mindless zombies read by mindless zombies! Thats what makes stories like this so great, the world is fucked and you dont know why its happening. Why do you think Lost is so popular? Christians can believe, "Thats the darn devil on the phone, that is!" or Sci-Fi fans that its aliens making ready for an invaison or others can think its terrorists or just some freak accidental signal that managed to scramble peoples brains. The truth to what happened in the book is obvious though, its just another way scientologists found to recruit members :) I feel another Jihad coming!

Isn't the books cover deceptive though! From looking at it, with the blood from the phones screen but especially from the cup, I thought blood was going to play a big part in the storyline. Obviously the blood coming from the phone I thought was just being poetic but the blood in the cup initally threw me.

*******************************************************

Anyway, the version I heard, the unabridged audio book version was quite entertaining but I was constantly being put off by the over dubbed voice they used at times. It probably had to do with changes made in the final version of the published book which wheren't present at the time of the recording.

Out of ten, I'll give it 7 Stephen Kings and 1 Richard Bachman, whatever that means.
