Paisean Faisean

Yeah its been a great night of tv watching for me today.... 2 programs! Other than Damien Mulley on Prime Time, I watched Paisean Faisean on TG4. As some of you know, I happen to think that that TG4 is the best Irish terrestrial channel there is, not that I watch it mind, they do make some awful shite. One such program is Paisean Faisean. Dial-ups too slow to hyperlink the links for you so do your own googling if you dont know what it is.

I freely admit that the only reason I started watching it was because yer wanno the host, had big bazookas, and the guest wasnt too bad herself. This is a good way to raise a point (pun not intended). Why do they put hard subtitles (permanent as opposed to difficult) on most of their programs? Ok so tonight it only annoyed me because it blocked the view but in general I think it's hypocritical. It's meant to be for the Gael goers and yet they whack english all over the shop. It doesnt aid irish learners as you just tune out to the Irish being spoken and read the English. It makes more sense to keep it all cryptic and force people to try and understand whats going on. That promotes Irish skills, not hand feeding the viewer. But I wasnt watching it for the Irish, I was watching it for (cue Jon Kenny accent) da Paisean, and da Faisean!

What struck me more than the size of her appendages, were the cut scenes of her power walking across screen like Pat Short as that Goretti wan from Killnaskully. Her manly stride put me off my manly stride, if you get my drift.

Hi ! Thanks so much for mentioning the "da Paisean, and da Faisean" ... I did google it to see what it was... and I came across the TG4 website ... and even the place where you can watch the episode ! I thought it just might be a snippet, but it's the whole thing... and from Australia, in the wee hours of the morning, I've just watched the Derry episode and am hooked ! I'm now onto the Limerick one. It's completely hilarious, and it's almost ironic that the last Aussie dating show didn't last a week before it was pulled from air because no one liked it. I see now, that what we really need is "Paisean Faisean" in the original Irish.

Oh, and I completely understand why the subtitles would be annoying for you, but I'm pleased they are there so I could enjoy the show too.

Yeah it was the Derry episode I watched too :)

I do like programs like this though, because they feel local and are fairly innocent. It's just a pity that they also feel extremely embarrassing!
