I want an Irish ID card

Do we have any such thing in Ireland? I can find nothing via google, bar the same old "anti-ID" shite spouted by civil-liberty cunts who have things to hide.

I need one, I want one, is there one to get? I'm no longer a student so I cant get one of those magic student card things, and I don't want to risk loosing another bulky passport or driving licence. I heard there was a new Garda card out, is that an ID card or just another "proof of age" card for 14 year old skangers looking to get locked on a half a bottle of Smirnoff Ice?

Speaking of bulky driving licences, why don't we copy Britain's system... or can we only copy British rule when it involves banning something? Britain have a great system, you have the paper licence but you leave that part at home and carry a credit card type licence in your wallet or purse. Of course this will never be introduced in Ireland. Ireland after all is a country with NO public transport and yet treats cars as luxuary items, things that only the "elite" should own. My paper licence is in flitters because I, like so many other people, have to carry it with them at all times in case I need to drive more than one vehicle in a day.

Anyway, this wasnt meant to be a rant it is an honest inquirey. It couldnt be a rant of course because as Bertie said, those who complain should commit suicide. I'm off to the river now... byeeeee!

I suppose you also think it makes sense to have our fingerprints info embedded in our passports?

A *voluntary* ID card would be fine with me, but I don't see why the fuck I should *have* to have one just because you want one.

You can suppose all you like but it wont make it true. I didnt see any mention of fingerprints in my post. I am strongly against this anyway, but purely on the basis of its potential for abuse . In theory, I think its a wonderful idea, don't you?

Yes, ummm... isnt that what I was asking about?

"I don't see why the fuck I should *have* to have one just because you want one"

No idea what part of your arse youre pulling this one from. I just wanted an official credit card sized photo ID that will be accepted as a form of identification, rather than a paper drivers licence or passport which are bulky and not meant for general purpose personal identification.

I figure your venom comes from my description of civil liberty nuts. In all honesty, I wrote that part last, and my anger came more from my frustration with Bertie Ahern than anything else. Peoples privacy needs to be protected, I mean come on, I'm using the pseudonym "Gamma Goblin" for heavens sake! If you read my other posts youll see my views come from both sides of the fence.

All one finds when they search for Irish ID is a barrage of "No" campaignes and scare mongering. Its just frustratingly negative. I put it to you that this anti-ID campaigning is just as damaging as compulsive ID cards for all. To put your own words conversely, "I don't see why the fuck I can't have one just because you don't want everyone to *need* one".

Eoin, my dear, you say you love reading and yet you cleary didnt read my post before commenting. Nevertheless, you commented so thanks! :)
