Jamiroquai has always been about Jay Kay, much like Simply Red has always been about Mick Hucknall. They surround themselves with fine session musicians and make great music.
But early Jamiroquai is always the best. Stuart Zender was/is an awesome bass player.
To an extent youre right, in the sense that with nearly all bands the singer gets most of the attention, but lets get one thing straight. Jay Kay might have worn the trousers, but Toby Smith made Jamiroquai. As well as being a founder member he wrote 99% of the music, save for JK warbling over the top. He left in 2001 because of "Personal Reasons", just before the shit hit the fan with that diabolical "Funk Odyssy". If one likes mediocre repetitive preteen pop songs then the current version of Crapiroquai will do quite nicely. Don't get me wrong, I'll tap my toe to shit like Little L but its nothing compared to "Journey to Arnhemland" or such like.
Stuart Zender is great alright, but Mr. X beats him hands down on the album version of "Space Cowboy" :)

Yes.
It's a pity how quickly Jamiroquai turned into the "Jay Kay Ego Machine". By the time the 4th album came out, the music had really begun to suffer.
