Irish Roads are shit, but why?

See the above car, its just a Golf, a 3.2l Golf R32 but a Golf nonetheless. I saw a 07 one parked in the middle of the city last night while out clubbing, thats one hell of a brave owner. Anyway, theres a bit of a hullabaloo in Britain at the moment because their car taxation system is in for a state of change and owners of bigger engined cars are going to be hit. They are going to be charged an unimaginable price of €590 a year to tax a new car like the one above. Thats a considerable rise from the previous €295 cost to tax the car alright, the poor bastards I hear you say?

Whist now, just hold your break-horses for a second, I havent mentioned Irish taxes yet. Lets look at what us cretins have been paying Bertie and the boys for years. What would €295 get you in Ireland? Well, you could just about scrape a 1.4 polo like I used to or you could be very exotic and drive around in a 1.4l Golf GT like I am now. Thats what €300 will roughly get you, 1.4l sewing machines! To tax the above car in Ireland for a year will cost you, wait for it, €1,343! For British readers thats £910. But don't faint just yet, I havent mentioned VRT and believe me, when you read this you will faint. VRT on the above car is €11,902. Thats nearly 12 grand (excluding normal VAT) that goes straight to the government for no good reason.

I just have one question: wheres the fucking money gone!? They havent spent it on roads thats for sure. Why do we need to be charged so much? Don't give me any bollocks about smaller populations, since we have a much smaller land mass than Britain so therefore need less to keep the roads going. Just where is the money leaking to? Pockets? Brown envelopes? Mary Harneys daily dietry needs? I know shes a big bitch but come on, 12 grand is a lot of burgers even for her, but then again...

Picture of the Week

Gone back to a traditional picture of the week this time. While searching around Bill's vids I came across fellow Youtube'r, Super Amanda. She included a link to her blogspot and myspace accounts on her info page.

A self proclaimed actor and musician, shes also a director. I'm in no position to say whether shes any good or not but, she sure has talent! I wish her all the bust, err... best!

Astounding photography via Spys Spice (I think!). There are so many amazing shots by French photographer Julien that it was hard to choose just one from his online gallery. Truely beautiful use of fill-flash in many of them. Crystal clear clarity and wonderful muted but diverse colouring. Limited gear but super photo's, a great photographer!

Vote David Norris No. 1

Much to their chagrin, my friends know well of my appraisal for Senator Norris. They note him not for his politics but rather his upfront homosexuality. His joyful outlook on life makes it easy to understand the adoption of the word "gay" for homosexuals. For years now, he has been the touchstone of happiness. Without fail, he can manage to brighten even the dullest mood. He is just a lovely man.

I certainly don't agree with all his views: all that "shell to sea" and "Shannon stop over" crap, left wing bollocks! On the other hand I am with him on the investigation of drug legalisation. It's not the cause he fights but the passion he puts behind it. Look around at the other slack jawed fuck nuts. Mary "meat-head" Harney couldnt give a shite about the health system past her monthly cholesterol checkup. Minister McGowal couldnt police his micky! Don't get me started on Bertie "Boo-hoo" Ahern, you know youre in trouble when people defend his character by saying "ah sure, he could have done worse". The opposition are a bunch of arse pimples, as rotten as Harneys crack!

I heard a rumor last year that Norris will be running for the Dail this time around. Whether he is or isnt dosent really matter though as Im nowhere near his constituency, no problem, I'm still giving him my number one vote. I'd rather spoil my vote on someone decent than on some local fuck face hell bent on getting a creamy retirement fund!

I couldnt last one day working in a call centre and I'd just end up acting like this guy. It's a short clip from episode 4 of the second season of Masters of Horror, "Sounds Like". A fairly boring episode from a hit and miss series.

Picture of the Week

You know things are bad when all I can manage are, late, Picture of the Week's. Theres a lot of shit going on recently but things should right themselves soon. I deffinately want to get more election theme posts up.

Anyways, here's a picture from The Life and Times in Carrigaline. He's giving the old scamming the scammers switchero a go. Interestingly, I also attempted scamming scammers recently. Although I didnt get a picture from them like this, I did have a lot of fun. I will blog about this eventually.

I feel so much safer now!
