Best Movie on TV over Christmas

As with Christmas TV schedules, the selection was all over the place. For example, for some reason we got Superman 2 then Superman 3 without even a hint of the first in the original trilogy. Not that you'd want to watch any of them really, even Richard Pryor in the 3rd one isn't worth watching, but I always give that Supergirl [NSFW] a good inspection when its on :)

Above is the official statistical analysis of Irish TV viewing over Christmas. I didn't watch any of it! What I did watch however was a 1988 French film that TG4 showed late one night. TG4 really is the best terrestrial station in Ireland. I happened upon it while channel flicking in bed (one likes to flick in bed once in a while):

"Camille Claudel", is a film about French sculptor Camille Claudel(Isabelle Adjani), outlining her rise to fame, her relationship with fellow French sculptor Rodin (Gérard Depardieu), and her eventual decline into madness. Isabelle Adjani is fantastic in it. Her transformation into insanity is truely stunning. Physically she looks like a different person near the end. Gérard Depardieu is solid and convincing, sporting a funky spiky hairdo and beard. I found a trailer for the movie from 7-art.blogspot.com but theres no voice over or subtitles, so you wont be getting much from it (if you don't speak French):

I went to straight to sleep after it ended because it ended up being nearly 3 hours long! So I looked the movie up in the RTE Guide the next, to see if there was anything I could find out about it (lack of internet). I was stunned to find it only received teo stars out of five by the 'Guides reviewer. So I looked up what else got two stars:

Yeah thats right, winner of 8 international film awards, double Oscar nominee, Camille Claudel, got the same as the "Skank Mongers" Spice World shite, which is currently running at 2.8/10 stars on the IMDB.

A picture of Isabelle Adjani, just because she's fabulous!
