I liked it, its the whole Last-Man-On-Earth type story again. It rips the throat out of 28 Days Later, but to be honest that wouldnt be hard since 28 Days Later was so abysmal! So no, you wont be subjected to any moronic twists like the British Army turning into a rape squad after less than a month. Christ what a stupid fucking film that was! Anyway, thats not to say that this one is faultless. The CGI is awful, well the animate CGI anyway. The "Darkies" look pathetic, close to the stuff seen in The Hulk. There's a scene involving running deer at the start and the CGI 15 years ago in Jurassic Park looked more convincing. The film is too short. Theres not enough time given to develop the story around the "Darkies" cognitive abilities. Instead we're left with random acts of intelligence that don't connect well. Maybe we'll get a longer directors cut when it comes out on video. Which will also hopefully fill out the explanation given for the cure for cancer, which in the theatrical version is pathetic: "Cancers like Mad Max driving down the road, we replace mad max with a police man and bam! no more cancer!"
I never liked Will Smith, but I realise now that he was just in shitty roles. Playing all cool and hip, with the groovy catch phrases: "Thats what I'm talking about", "gotta get me one of these" and "Man this movie sure is shit".
HAPPY NEW YEAR :)
ReplyDeleteYou liked it, Frank didn't. Oh darn. I'll just have to go see it if I can.

I didn't say I loved it either mind you. Its still a modern Hollywood movie, so you'll either have to put up with all the baggage that entails or just reject it completely. Oh and its another very poor adaptation of the book if you read it.
ReplyDeleteIf you think the "Darkies" were bad, try watching The Ω Man. The equivalent of the "Darkies" were "The Family" who were absolutely horrendous clan of freaks covered in talcum powder and donning white wigs.
ReplyDeleteThe best I Am Legend adaption The Last Man of Earth. Vincent Price surprises all by putting in a very decent performance.
I remember The Last Man of Earth being surprisingly entertaining, although I don't remember much of it now. The Omega Man was just poor, very boring.
