I remember watching this when it was on first 2 years ago. I decided to put it up cos some of my foreign readers may not have seen it before (and may be interested). It's both funny and informative (unlike the current incarnation of The Panel).
I'm a big Dawkins "fan", if you will, and think he's not only a very intelligent and engaging character, but also quite brave to appear in places where his opinions have caused so much furore. I don't think he's the best orator, especially on a TV format such as this, mainly because he is incredibly blunt and many perceive that as him going for the shock value. When he says that calling a child a "Catholic Child" is child abuse, his sentiment is bang on the money, but some view it as a headline grabbing comment. However, the title of his book is actually very accurate. When you know the true meaning of the word delusion, there is actually no better way of describing religion. It is a form of virus, passed on over generations with fear and indoctrination.
And I have to say, Dara O'Brien is a feckin' legend. Not sure if you get Mock The Week over there, but he is the host and does a fine job. His stand up is also brilliant. Ed Byrne is also a very entertaining individual and it was good to see him leaping from witty material to proper, intelligent questions on the subject matter.
Yes Dara and Ed Byrne are badly missed from the show. You seem to be missing a lot of things recently Betty, first TV shows and now food too? :)
Failed Muso: I wouldnt worry about his bluntness. There was laughter from the audience at some of the things he said merely because people went in expecting humor. One of the panel members could have suffered a heart attack to peels of laughter (ala Tommy Cooper). In my recent post on "Scientology Haters" I was going to reference Dawkins "root of all evil" program when asking where are those who challenge Islam and alike. I decided it deserves a post of its own at a future date.
I hope that last line in your comment is meant for other readers Muso, because if you dont already know that I'm a regular visitor to richarddawkins.net I'll be very mad at you :) BTW, don't visit richarddawkins.org lol
