I visit Maplins every so often, and usually I pick up some kind of item to cheer myself up if the weeks been bad (or reward myself if the weeks been good... I'm a winner either way lol). Here's three bits I picked up individually over a few months. 12v Solar panal. I got the 2watt one, you know, for the mega powerz! lol Wind up flash light with 6v in and out (very handy). Cheap maplins analogue multimeter (analogue meters rock!). Solar panals (especially the non-maplin types) work really well even if its cloudy. The problem is, they just don't provide all that much power even when the suns out.

Back in 2000 I bought a solar panel for the shed to power all the garden lights. Over the years the light sets have gone bellyup so some day I should renew the lot.
Meanwhile our back patio is lit using solar lights that have had their powere beefed up with additional batteries and panels.
Real nerdy but herself won't let me bore through the wall to bring out power...
