The sun may have been shining but there was a definite air of recession to the people involved in the show. There was a lot of begging there too, either legit charities or just vagabonds. A lot more than last year. Most people we talked to behind the stalls were pessimistic about their business ventures. All except one guy though...

The guy who came up with "All Weather Clothesline" couldn't be dissuade, no matter what people said to him. He got an awful going over while I looked on. I heard him interviewed on the Derek Mooney show on Tuesday and he got a pretty bad going over on that one too. He was charging €975 for a gazebo with a clothes-line, I think that was the problem most people had. He was an electrician who got out of the trade last year because of the lack of business, and turned his hand to this idea. While I think the idea is mad I admire his conviction and passion for it.

Do you know the one about the Garda in a wheelchair? No, neither do I... so lets swiftly move on shall we.

My goodness! Who took this one!? This is dedicated to Donncha O'Caoimh and his penchant for shooting candid shots of young ladies on the streets of Cork :D

No Ploughing Championships would be complete without Ritchie Kavanagh. Here he is with his son outside the 2FM Roadcaster.

One of thse photos is a subtle reference to "Family Guy"
Oy! Photos of ladies on the street? I'll have you know those are artistic street photographs depicting every day life in the fine city of Cork.
Err, yes, really.
Haven't had much chance to take street shots lately (as in, last 18 months, coincidentally how old my son is.. hmm)
Must rectify.
Des: Like I said, lets move swiftly along... nothing to see here ;)
Donncha: Well its not as bad as me. My 10D has seen so little action it's not even clocked up 6000 images yet. My phone on the other has smoke coming out of it some days. On Wednesday, I soon realised why my camera gear had been sitting in the closet for so long. After a days worth of shooting I was well and truely sick of the 10D's 1.6x magnification of lens focal lengths. It turn's my 28-70mm L series lens into a useless lump of glass. I'm thinking of selling the whole lot.
You need to get your hands on an 18mm wide lens. My zoom lens is the Sigma 18-200 which works great, although image quality could be better I suppose.
There's also a Sigma 18-250, I think with image stabilization which I'd love to try but after shelling out for the new camera recently I think it may be quite a while before I get a new lens!
Of course, there's also the really wide angle lenses that start at 10mm. They're fun :)
No rural event is complete without an appearance by Ritchie Kavanagh.
May his gloves stay white and his hair bushy.
Donncha: I'll get reply in more detail with a post I'm drafting up for later about my camera gear.
Carrigaline: If only Ritchie's gloves could talk, they would surely scream.
