I Bricked My Phone

I killed my Nokia N73 last night, right before I was about to give my number out to the sexy bitches online (which sexy bitches? All of them my dear!). I was doing a firmware update cos it had started to slow down a lot recently. In the middle of it the Nokia updater said it had lost communication with the phone and told me to disconnect it, take out the battery etc. and connect it up again. It worked the first time... then a few minutes after that it lost communication again. Once again it told me to disconnect it etc... this time after reconnecting it the whole lot froze and I was left with a Nokia paper weight.

Ah well, I was going to get a new one soon enough anyway, but I just wish the N73 was still working. So I bought a Nokia 6500 Slide this morning. So far I like it a lot. It's only a Series 40 so that means I cant get the real fancy apps for it. But Series 40 means its got a quicker responce time compared to the more bloated series 60. And its got a 3.2MP camera, which doesnt have a manditory flash when you take a pic (unlike the N73), so some fun times ahead heehee :)

Sorry to hear your N73 got fooked. Have you tried repeating the FW update process ? I have, on occasion, had similar issues with my missus' N73 and after restarting the entire process, NSU finds it and were off and running again. The biggest problem with the N73 and updating is the shite PopPort connector at the bottom of the phone. Thank feck they're all now moving towards standard MiniUSB ports on all phones. I wouldn't give up entirely on the N73 yet.

I certainly couldn't drop down to a Series40 phone though.

Failed Muso: Yeah theres definitely some life to it still alright. When I connect it and power it up windows knows theres something there but it doesnt know what. Reminds me of when I have to reflash my Alesis Photon. If I had some sort of software that works on a more basic level to the nokia software updater, it might do the trick. I might just bring it to a nokia shop, cos its definitely easily repairable.

Believe me, I never thought I'd use anything other than a Symbian OS again, but I have to admit I love the speed of the single task OS. Over the last year I was thinking about getting a more basic phone anyway cos all I do is make calls, text and take photos. I see the 6500 as a temporary model before I take the plunge and buy something truely obscene like an E90 or something :)
