You can HOPE all you like but this is reality for an awful lot of people. I didn't have enough time to do up my own version so I just Googled around for an online automagical generator. I found this Flash based one. It's not bad, you can alter the colour ranges after you upload your image but it smooths out the final image too much. It looked much better before it rendered the final version.
Here's the actual image I created and uploaded to the site. You can see how sharpe the lines are.
