FFS man! Get a grip! Bright, she may be, but the girl is "proper butters" as we say over here. I mean, I'm turned on by exceptional intellect like the rest, but it has to be carried in a vehicle of reasonable visual excellence, and this bird is considerably sub par!

Ignoring that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, why does intelligence need to be wrapped up in beauty. With only a hint of my feministic side showing, isn't it ok that I admire her for her intellectual abilities alone? How is this any different from me posting about Tim Exile and saying that he's lovely; a bit like Andrea Bocelli in space lol Oh I'm a complex kettle of banana's I tell you!

Let me first address my good friend GG. In the grand scheme of things, I couldn't give a stuff about Gail, University Challenge or the hub bub it has recently created. I mean, UC normally sits WELL below the radar, but as soon as some "top totty" starts blitzing the joint, the whole world goes apeshit!
Crystallized intelligence is the very poor relation of fluid intelligence. Being able to remember lots of things, be they trivial or matters of great importance doesn't really mean anything compared to the ability to explore, analyse and problem solve. Anyone can have a great memory.
And aren't there 4 members in a team on UC? Did GT really answer EVERYTHING?
As you say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and she's not my cup of tea, but would you find her quite as attractive if she looked like Bella Emberg?? ;o)
Now, Mr (or Miss) Anonymous. Firstly, if you're going to participate in a discussion where you feel the need to personally attack participants, have the bollox to put your name to it. Secondly, Gamma & I are well acquainted and my response was received in the manner it was intended (Note both our use of smileys and LOL'S). Thirdly, your argument (for want of a better word) is weak. "Over There" & "Over Here"?? Over-fuckin'-where?? Look in the mirror? Bitter? Sounds to me like someone is feeling a tad inferior! I'm an ugly cunt, no doubt! And as for the moniker, you simply don't have a clue, so why bother using it as a weapon?
If you want to play with the big boys, have the intelligence and nouse to be able to compete. A battle of wits with the unarmed is hardly fair ;o)
To be honest, I don't understand the level of interest in Gail Trimble either. Like I said, I was shocked to find out that her name was being mentioned elsewhere on the web after my initial post. I only mentioned her in passing really and if it weren't for a huge rise in numbers visiting this blog I probably wouldn't have even known the final of UC was on monday last! When I took the (now world famous) photograph of the TV screen I really thought that it was going to be a random, off the wall and unknown subject matter. Little did I know...
The problem lies in human nature really. Someone sticks their head above the parapet and everyone who's aggrieved does their best to shoot them down. It's like the arms race: Someone takes a dislike to someone, says something bad. Another person with only a disinterest in the case takes the side of the underdog and retaliates with twice the force. So forth and so on. If the truth were told, 99% of people wouldn't care enough to comment either way, but they just have this inbuilt thing to "attack and defend".
I can't speak for the level of "pro Trimble" talk which would have come independent of the hate on the internet, I can only imagine that there would have been some anyway, but all of this blew up months ago when people posted nasty things on the internet. Most of her fame, for want of a better word, was directly caused by this hate to begin with. I'm guilty of posting about her because of the interest but if I found out that her team won, I probably would have still posted again with something small just as a "by the way".

There are indeed 4 in the team and its very unfair how they've been seemingly forgotten. Again though, I place a lot of this squarely at the feet of the hate sensation. Other factors include, Trimble being the captain and answering more than the rest during the series (although she didn't seem to do too well in the final lol).
I'm not familiar with Bella Emberg, so I looked her up. Hmmmm... she's 71! That's hardly a fair comparison lol However I will say, if she had the mannerisms of Trimble I would say she was a lovely lady also :)
Anyway, I hope for all concerned that this dies down soon.
Oh and by the way, you're not that ugly. Sure haven't you got a lovely keyboard growing out of your arms :)
