Get Me The Number For The Internet!

Did you know that you can get the internet over the phone now? Oh I don't mean ADSL or ever 3G, I mean that you can actually "ring it up!". Or so say the Cork County Council anyway. I recently got a notice to tax my car for the year. Along with the form to be filled out I also received the above flyer. I highlight the text that caught my attention, below:

I think what they meant to say was something like "people who wish to avail of the same convenience as the Motor Taxation on-line service should ring this number".

To be fair, in my understanding, online doesn't necessarily have to refer to the internet, but could refer to any remote access, automated service. IF, on the other hand, a human and not a machine answers the line, they're a bit daft.

You know, that's a very valid point you raised. With the way it was written I presumed that you would be dealing with a real person if you called the number. I gave them the benefit of the doubt though and rang the number just now(5:05pm). This is what I was greeted with "We are sorry, our offices are now closed...". Hmmmm... Ok so, maybe they just switch the machines off, you know, to like save power or something.... I checked the internet for their office phone number. They only have one, and it's the same. Hmmmm... Hmmmmmm...

So maybe the whole thing is automated and they turn it all off at 5 to save power... this is the 21st century after all, right!? Well if they really are that advanced in the Cork Motor Taxation office, then I'd love them to explain the technology behind the map they've placed on their website! That map is epic on so many levels! lol

the laflet sounds amateur, who says "ring up" or even "ring" it is too casual almost as bad as "give us a bell/buzz". It should say "call" or "'phone"

Ah sure, they wanted it to sound friendly to all those people who are scared of the evil internets.
