Another attic classic computer keyboard. This time it's the turn of Olivetti (at the time it was partly owned by DIGITAL Equipment Corporation). Like the last time, I didn't bother with any part of the computer other than the keyboard, but I do want to say how well the machine was put together. Nice touches like copper earthing plates for where the cover touched the chassis, and the whole thing feels so solid.
DEC was a pioneering force in computer manufacturing since 1957, but they are now no longer around. They were bought over in 1998 by Compaq (which was later acquired by HP). They were suffering for a good number of years before that, selling off most of its subsidiary companies and technology. It's last roll of the dice involved the setting up and running of the search engine "Alta Vista" in the late 90's. DEC had a strong influence in Ireland while it existed, with two major plants located in Galway and Clonmel, Co. Tipperary.
