Victor Barry Joins RTÉ... wow!

Guess what! Not only has Victor Barry joined RTE but he's taking over the Liveline!! Holy shitballs!!! O.O Like everyone else, I had heard the rumors a while back about him joining RTE... but hosting the Liveline!? Wow! Read the story for yourself here on the RTE news website.

"Cork Radio Host, Victor Barry, has recently signed a multi-year contract with RTÉ Radio, after a short negotiation period. Adrian Moynes, Managing Director of RTÉ Radio, is reported as saying that Barry was headhunted after a Cork based RTÉ executive was repeatedly impressed with how he handled callers on his nightly call-in show, "Cork Talks Back", on Corks RedFM.
...

Barry is to take over hosting Radio One's popular and award winning daily call-in show, "The LiveLine", from current host Joe Duffy later this year. Duffy, who has been host for over ten years, is said to have grown tired of the format of the show and is to undertake another as of yet unnamed RTÉ project.
...

Barry will begin hosting The LiveLine early next Autumn, when his current contract with RedFM runs out."

So what do you think of that then? No more Joeeeeee Duffy! Maybe it will be Viiiiiiiic Barry lol I'd say John Creedon swung it for him, they were getting awfully pally with each other the other week on the show. Victor Barry on national radio... Jaysus!

  1. Didn't see that one coming! I heard that initially, RTÉ were looking to bring Neil Prenderville out of retirement, but he was simply looking for too much money.

Still though, a great move for Victor.

  3. Thanks to everyone who visited and commented! :)

A quick background to the post. I originally drafted up a few ideas months ago. It was going along the lines of "Alleged News" which was running on the show at the time. I planned it to be a very straight and serious news report but with an "... allegedly" tacked on at the end. I never got around to finishing it but I thought no better time than April Fools Day to get get the finger out.

Carrigaline: Neil Prenderville, hmmmmm... not too familiar with him... he must be one of them 96FM ruffians.

Vic: thanks so much for the mention the show this evening. Being honest, I was half expecting some kind of reference, but only something very small like "by the way, I'm not heading to RTE in case you're wondering". Never thought you'd go into so much detail *very humbled!* Thank you! :)

Shane: Is it too late in the day to try and fool you into thinking I'm an alter ego of Vic? :)
