European Elections 2009

Yeah so I went in votin' there on Friday. I gave Fine Gael all my votes in the local elections but as for the European elections well, I thought the whole thing was a pile of shite. My ISP is snooping on my internet activity so I would have given a vote to anyone with a strong stance of internet rights (e.g. a Pirate Party) but all we had were Green cretins, wheelchair dudes, Sinnott bitches and GAA stars. I couldn't decide so I took the ballot sheet home with me. Maybe I'll decide by the time of the next election comes around and I'll pop it into the ballot box then.

Sweden had their European Elections today, but boy, do they have a weird voting system or what!

nitro2k01: [as discussed elsewhere] multiple party sheets and double enveloping.

Darran: I think I might try and swag me an electoral poster before they're all taken down ;)

DO you speak Swedish...care to translate?

Nooo not Fine Gael...once you've voted for them you can't take it back and you will have to live with that for the rest of your life...I think there's a special place in hell for Fine Gael voters.

Ah Ferris...snag me a poster as well.

Look at that Burke guy from Fine Gael, very creepy looking. I'm scared.

Yes I DO speak a bit of Swedish actually. In the Swedish electoral system, they have a process known as "30% mer lödder", this roughly translates as "30% for the winning". Basically, if you get 30% of the votes in the European Election, you are automatically given a seat in the national parliament. Crazy, but thats the Swedes for you :)

bigmentaldisease: Colm Burke is a fine upstanding citizen, I saw him up standing outside the local chipper last week anyway.

Oh yeah, just notice my crazy capitalisation...damn my bad finger co-ordination. I could never satisfy Ferris with these crazy fingers...

Boyle from the Greens scares me.

Speaking of the Swedish system and copyright law; did you hear that The Pirate (Bay) Party won two seats in the Swedish elections?

Carrigaline: I did indeed, I shared the story on Twitter yesterday actually.

Oh and The Pirate Party isn't actually related to The Pirate Bay btw, and there are Pirate Parties in other countries (such as Germany) too.
