The Swine Flu is coming! ... since 1976

Here's an info-add describing an outbreak of Swine Flu, back in 1976. I thought it was an [adult-swim] gag at first because the first guy sounds exactly like Dr. Steve Brule (John C. Reilly). [via]

Great music in the second part to the vid, really gives it a classic horror feel.

As for Swine Flu, Michael O'Leary was dead right (that pun covers my ass in case he was wrong heehee). The dangers of this Flu have been over stated. The global recession has gotten boring so now the media are saying we're all going to die from the Jew Flu. David Jon Sponheim is still selling the masks though in case youre worried.

Twilight Cake = Goatse lulz

There are many fine and funny cakes at the Cake Wrecks blog. There are many that I like, the Sherk one being my personal favorite (too lazy to find hyperlink for you), but this one really caught my eye, and the reason I'm posting it now is because it's obvious, yet unintentional, connection to a past internet legend has gone without mention. Can you guess from the picture below (and the title of this post for the braindead) which one it is? It's not shoop da whoop, although the black background and shape of the red apple does lend itself to a make over. If you're lost at this point forget it, just take a look at the travesty below and enjoy! [via]

This man will be US President in 2012?

He's running for presidency in 2012, honest! If I were American, he'd get my vote! Just look at him, he's all protected from the Swine Flu, and the AIDS.

And here's a video of his explaining his own kickass news show. "It beats all the rest!" I just love the *Shatner* pause around 14 seconds into it.

"Winston Churchill backed by band from the future"

I have no time for Churchill, but this remix of one of his speeches in 1941 is fantastic. Auto-Tune used for something decent. Hopefully a full song will come eventually. The chorus is so catchy.

D | I | G | I | T | A | L Keyboard

Another attic classic computer keyboard. This time it's the turn of Olivetti (at the time it was partly owned by DIGITAL Equipment Corporation). Like the last time, I didn't bother with any part of the computer other than the keyboard, but I do want to say how well the machine was put together. Nice touches like copper earthing plates for where the cover touched the chassis, and the whole thing feels so solid.

DEC was a pioneering force in computer manufacturing since 1957, but they are now no longer around. They were bought over in 1998 by Compaq (which was later acquired by HP). They were suffering for a good number of years before that, selling off most of its subsidiary companies and technology. It's last roll of the dice involved the setting up and running of the search engine "Alta Vista" in the late 90's. DEC had a strong influence in Ireland while it existed, with two major plants located in Galway and Clonmel, Co. Tipperary.

The Dump Station (possible new blog)

Click for bigger (looks more interesting bigger).

Some art I did on Saturday night/Sunday morning. I've never really painting anything with a mouse and software before. I've done vector art but not anything half serious with a paint effect.

Like most things I started this as a joke, to illustrate what popped into my head when friend told me they had to bring their RV to the "Dump Station". I'm sure you can guess what a dump station involves regarding RV's. I had never heard the expression before and I thought it sounded kinda cool, like some sort of refuse station in space (think Red Dwarf). So I started sketching out something crap, then it got serious.

While doing it I thought about creating a blog where I could post sci-fi fiction every week revolving around a story based on the concept of a space "dump station". I created the blog, but I doubt I'll ever post anything beyond the first post I published on it. You can view it here:

Crank (2006)

A typical Saturday night in the Goblin household.

In a nutshell, Jason Stathams apology for the Transporter movies. Must go and see Crank 2 now, although I predict it will be crap.

The basic plot of Crank: Assassin wakes up with a Chinese haemo-toxin flowing around his system. He will die in an hour; the only way to slow the toxins progress is too take lots of stimulants. So thats the film basically; Jason Statham running around for 90 minutes totally buzzing and shooting people. A winning combination in my book. Amphetamines FTW!

Yeah the idea of playing tunes on motors is getting old but it does make you wonder what Mistabishi could have done with "Paper Jam" if he weren't so lazy.

The Pirate Bay Movie, CAM released

Here are the owners of bit torrent site, the Pirate Bay, calculating all the money they've made from piracy [and child pornography, terrorism, toxic waste dumping, animal abuse, Nigerian spam scams...].

Love the way the film ends abruptly, thus cutting out the, literal and figurative, "money shot"... I hope that a deliberate play on definitions by the CAM operator.

Tattoo Doodles

Here's some doodling I did a few weeks back. The top ones are on top of the then current RTE guide and the sketch underneat was done a few days previous while bored at work. Oh and its not bad white-balance in the bottom pic, it's just yellow paper; yellow paper rocks!

Brian Cowen: Budget Preamble Remix

Less said the better.

[UPDATE] Some are confused, so here's what I originally wrote. And yes, I did make the video :)

Don't ask me, cos I really don't know myself. Started off as an animated lip-smacking gif, then turned into this video. I finished it before it could get good though. Not sure how others make videos like this, but I mashed it up manually.

The One With Me On The Radio

Well, the one with the blog on the radio anyway. As some may have heard Vic Barry gave the blog a mention on his show when he commented on the April Fools gag I posted involving his departure from RedFM to join the state broadcaster, RTÉ. Just listen to the clip, it's fairly well explained. For those still lost with what I'm rambling on about, I'll give some bullet points below, as well as a notes about the hidden messages in the setup:

Download the mp3 here if there's a problem with the Google Video

The Background to the post:
  • "Cork Talks Back" is a nightly talkshow hosted by Victor Barry on Cork's RedFM

  • A few months back he ran a segment on the show where called 'alleged news' where a fictitious  OTT news story was read out on-air with the word "allegedly" tacked on at the end.

  • I started writing a post at the time in the same "dead-pan" format detailing how Barry was moving to RTE. It never got finished.

  • Months later the item was dropped from the show but Fools Day was coming up so I decided to rework what I had written to fit with it.

  • I never expected anyone to believe it, but I wrote it as if I was wasn't in on the gag (just to get into the swing of Fools Day)

  • Someone contacted Vic about it and he kept the gag running by posting a confirmation post on his own blog.

  • After seeing that post I was expecting some sort of small mention on that nights show, but I never expected for the level of exposure this blog got.

Some Easter Egg's about the setup:
  • If you look closely at the text in the picture you'll read that only the first paragraph relates to the story I wrote, the rest is from the actual real RTE page I used as a template, and it relates to  the man that was killed in a branch of B&Q earlier that week. I had softened the text slightly, not to hide it completely, but just show it wouldn't jump out at you if you glanced at the picture.

  • The fake link I gave to the RTE news website ended with f00l.html (as in "fool" for foolsday)

  • I thought the whole thing might have been ruined when Vic on the previous nights show, extensively joked about how he might be in the running to replace Pat Kenny as host of "The LateLate Show", a famous Friday night talkshow on RTE television. I later saw the peculiarity of this scarily similar topic as good karma for my post.

Thanks again to Vic for being a good sport and giving the place a mention on the show! :-) (btw I was totally mortified when I initially started hearing the post being read out on-air, as I just banged it out and didn't even proof read it heehee)

Happy Easter, People!

Obama Censorship

I was looking around for that video where Cowen and Obama mix up their speeches on the teleprompter on St. Patricks Day (The one where Obama thanks himself). Apparently the video hasn't been released and never will be released [according to others, because it will make Obama seem less like god]. No worries though, there are plenty of examples where Obama proves he's no better than Bush when it comes to off the cuff speaking. Check out what happens when the teleprompter craps out. Remind you of anyone?

And I was looking at him answering questions at the G20 summit. The guy was just as bad as Bush for talking nonsense. Rambling on for hours, looking down at his hands, uh'ing and ah'ing... and basically, not answering the question. The difference between the two however is that Bush came across looking like a laughing idiot whereas Obama is just boring.

I have nothing against Obama, but the bullshit surrounding the guy is overpowering.

Where's That Bono Cunt When You Need Him

Hey remember all that Live 8 crap a few years back? "Drop the bomb" I mean "Drop The Debt"... bail out the third world countries and all that bollocks. Well where's Geldof and his chums telling the world to drop Irish debt?

Of course just dropping debt is stupid, thats why you could never drop Irish debt overnight. Similarly thats why asking for third world debt to be dropped was also quite silly. I was having none of it back then... and now I can feel like a right smug prick today.

Speaking of 8's, the G8 and the G20 malarky.... why oh why in the age of super mega telecommunications do we still have to get a load of pompous cretins together in some place for a few days? How much damage and how many people killed will it take before some smart numpty comes up with the idea "Hey Obama, why don't I just ring you on the old telephone and we can do a conference call with the other 18 country leading buffoons?".

If we cut out all that G20 rubbish we would automatically cut out all those crusties getting together, rioting and breaking windows demanding whales to be saved, before pissing in doorways.

Here's a video of Obama et all at next years G20.... if we're lucky.

This was a goddamn lazyassed post... but fuck it, I got my main points across.

2TB

Behold! Two 500GB WesternDigital 'MyBook' external hard-drives and one 1000GB WesternDigital 'MyBook' hard-drive. Is it just me or is there a touch of O RLY about this? Watch the 'winky-blinky' video.

Of course, technically not 2TB but that's just the way hard-drives are standardised.

Two Much(1995) - Michel Camilo

I saw this movie on TV a while back, Two Much, starring Antonio Banderas. Painful to watch but I left it on in the background. Then the credits started rolling and my attention perked up when I heard the music being played. I thought it sounded familiar then I looked over at the screen; couldn't believe it, it was my old friend* Michel Camilo. He was performing his "Caribe" piece. Even Cliff Almond was there on drums. Classic stuff! I said it before and I'll say it again, Camilo is a beast on the piano.

I found this version on youtube. It's the same footage used for the credits of the film but matted into 4:3 and missing the text.

* Not actually a friend :)

300: Brian Blessed Cameo As A Spartan

I just spotted Brian Blessed in "300", can you spot him too? Don't blink! And please do watch it, it's only 17 seconds long for peats sake!

Searched everywhere but I couldn't find any other similar edit. Very surprised as I personally always see Brian Blessed (Prince Vultan) when I watch the bearded Gerard Butler in "300". Guess it might have something to do with the fact that Flash Gordon(1980) is one of my most favorite films ever! I had always wanted to make this video since I first watched 300, which seems like 300 years ago now. Others are probably better at lip-syncing but I don't think I did too bad considering how quickly it was done :)

LOST: Is Ben Mean't To Be Bill Gates?

Since Benjamin Linus appeared on the scene in Lost (Season 2 I think) I have been convinced it's a nod towards Bill Gates. For one the actor (Michael Emerson) has that Bill Gates look about him, with the glasses and everything... theres that air of "supposed" evil as well. Plus look at his name, "Ben Linus"... Linus, the name of the inventor of Linux, the old competitor of Microsoft's Windows. And is Ben just a swift change from Bill?

1238806137634 "eeyore is cute!"

I thought I was going mad this morning (alright, "madder" then). There was this post in my feedreader titled "1238806137634" and with the text "eeyore is cute!" in the body of the post. Everytime I clicked on it went to an unrelated post. I thought it odd, but forgot about it. Then on another blog feed I got the same thing. Thinking that I mistook the feed earlier I clicked on it and saw the post itself. I went back and checked the original feed for the post and there it was. Fearing an inviaision of the body snatchers, I googled the phenominon and found this: "An internal load testing at Blogger somehow got some wires crossed that let their test post get published on some blogs." Spooky! You know, this is exactly how religions form.

New Music - "123"

Usually I go into detail when I publish my music. Personally I don't like knowing too much about the music I'm listening to as it sometimes taints the experience (the same as poetry really) so I'm not going to say much in future maybe, except for some technical details. Done in Reason, synth patches programed by me (except the percussion... found that patch lying around somewhere), name comes from the BPM of the song. Images for the art work were taking from pics I took at last years Ploughing Championships :)

Oh and by the way, I don't care what anyone says about it because a hot Latina already told me it was brilliant, and thats good enough for me :)

More of my music can be found here [incomplete]

Victor Barry Joins RTÉ... wow!

Guess what! Not only has Victor Barry joined RTE but he's taking over the Liveline!! Holy shitballs!!! O.O Like everyone else, I had heard the rumors a while back about him joining RTE... but hosting the Liveline!? Wow! Read the story for yourself here on the RTE news website.

"Cork Radio Host, Victor Barry, has recently signed a multi-year contract with RTÉ Radio, after a short negotiation period. Adrian Moynes, Managing Director of RTÉ Radio, is reported as saying that Barry was headhunted after a Cork based RTÉ executive was repeatedly impressed with how he handled callers on his nightly call-in show, "Cork Talks Back", on Corks RedFM.
...

Barry is to take over hosting Radio One's popular and award winning daily call-in show, "The LiveLine", from current host Joe Duffy later this year. Duffy, who has been host for over ten years, is said to have grown tired of the format of the show and is to undertake another as of yet unnamed RTÉ project.
...

Barry will begin hosting The LiveLine early next Autumn, when his current contract with RedFM runs out."

So what do you think of that then? No more Joeeeeee Duffy! Maybe it will be Viiiiiiiic Barry lol I'd say John Creedon swung it for him, they were getting awfully pally with each other the other week on the show. Victor Barry on national radio... Jaysus!
