Goblin, Kultivator, Magma

Artist: Goblin
Album: Zombi (Dawn of the Dead soundtrack)
Year: 1978
Have a good listen to this extract from the title track. Let the general musical ideas filter through your ears and into your brain. Ignore the overall acoustics and instead focus on the compositional structure.

Artist: Kultivator
Album: Barndomens Stigar
Year: 1981
Now listen to this extract from Swedish folk-prog group Kultivator. Hear the similar dissonant human droning with the stabbing bass motif over the top. You might even say it's almost the same phrase; just slowed down; with the cadences slightly changed.

Artist: Magma
Album: FLÖË ËSSI (Single)
Year: 1998
This is the most recent extract and probably sounds the spookiest. It captures the same general idea of the first two pieces but brings it further along the path.

Interestingly, Kultivator were directly influenced by Magma's "Zeuhl" music in the 70's. It's unknown what Goblin thought of Magma at the time. It's also unknown whether these pieces all relate to something greater or were they just homages, or perhaps it is simply co-incidental that they all happen to sound a bit alike (at least in my head anyway). The last two extracts were just very small parts of their respective songs, but the transition to both pieces was very abrupt and distinct, which exaggerated their effect.
