Dear Hollywood: Could You Bring Back The Colours Please

What the Wizard Of Oz would look like if it were made today.

I was watching 2010: The Year We Make Contact over the weekend and I found it quite entertaining, more so than 2001 actually. Part of that entertainment was due the fact that the film had the colour red in it. Movies these days don't have red. I knew all about the "teal and orange" curse of modern films but this is the first time I really said to myself "Fuck, this shit has to stop!".

  1. 2010 is a better book than 2001, but filmwise I much prefer it the other way around. It's possibly the balliest/artiest movie ever made, so I can understand why people would dislike it.

And yeah, bring back over-colour or too much colour. The last thing I remember that didn't look like three different shades of brown or grey was killer7. Also note to self: need to get Child of Eden.

  2. It's not that I dislike 2001 as such, I just prefer the story and atmosphere to 2010. It's hard to watch 2001 now without getting caught up in all the parodies and accolades it's attracted over the years. It's a fine film no doubt.

Forget about over-colour, just bring back a full dynamic range. One of the redeeming features of "The Village" was it's use of natural colours, as if it were shot on bog standard non-treated 35mm film. I'm off to watch Suspiria to soak up some primary colours...
