Segway Boss Dies: On Segway, Off Cliff

In the wake of Jimi Heselden's (Segway scooter inventor boss) death from flying off a cliff on his own invention product, I'm really surprised the internet isn't full of images like the ones above already. Maybe it is and I'm missing them, but I did a few anyway, just in case.
"Tributes have been paid to the head of the Segway company who died after apparently falling from a cliff while riding one of the two-wheeled scooters.

Jimi Heselden OBE, 62, a former miner who left school at the age of 15, made an estimated £160m fortune through his Leeds-based company Hesco Bastion."

  1. The top one looks like a mass suicide.

  2. He didn't invent the Segway, he bought the company in 2000. I didn't see any images online, but thankfully you filled that space! I did find a picture of the actual cliff http://url.ie/7ntc and a picture of him on a Segway! http://url.ie/7ntd

  3. Darran: Doh! Serves me right for doing more photoshopping and less reading regarding the incident. I have to admit though, the fact he only owned the company knocks the shine off the delicious irony, for me. But thanks for the heads-up :)

The Shape: Mass suicide conjures up different images for me now than it used to, for some reason: A church filled with dead priests.

  5. Now if every Segway owner would ride it off a cliff...

    I'm sorry. That was mean.

  6. Yes, the US must be a funny place with all those Segways flying about the place. What are the figures for Segway ownership now? About 3 per person?

Segways are lower than even bicycles on the transport foodchain. Motorists at least give cycling the benefit of being a form of exercise. Segways though?

But what about these "cool" Segway pics? Chinese Army. I wonder if the orders are like this: "Segway and fire... Segway and fire!" Or how about this sexy pic: Segway Sexy time.

    I'm not convinced.

  7. We don't really have that many Segways. I've only ever seen a few in person. A couple of years ago a lot of shopping malls and airports and such bought them for the security guards to ride around on. That's died out, though.

  8. Haha I was wondering if the Segway use in that film Mall Cop was true or not :)
