I was watching The Ricky Gervais Show when my brain had a spas attack. My mind drew the picture above, where the trio morphed back and forth between the trio that make up MUSE. I think it was the similarities between Stephen Merchant and Dominic Howard that was the driving force, and head-styles of Karl Pilkington and Christopher Wolstenholme helped. Matt Bellamy and Ricky Gervais are just an amusing couple to swap heads between. Still confused? Well go here then [ musicazon.com ].
that idiot abroad show is just terrible , not to be too much of a hater but gervais is scraping the bottom of the barrel with it, laughing at some guy who isnt even funny, feeding off him ...
ReplyDeleteYes and no. When I watched it first I turned it off in disgust. I had the same opinion of it as you. I even when to the mighty Twitter and suggested that Ricky keep his personal Bully-Projects to himself.
ReplyDeleteBut then, later this year, I discovered the Ricky Gervais Show Podcasts from 2005 onwards. The Idiot Abroad spin-off then finally made sense. It's the kind of show that you need to know the mentality and character of Karl Pilkington, and his relationship with Ricky and Stephen. Until you discover that, I doubt the show will make any sense at all, and I think because of that, it fails as a venture on both production and entertainment.
I suggest you check out the first series of podcasts, and see what you think. You'll at least know then if the trio's routines work for you or not.
Actually, I've gone back and watched a few episodes of The Office. Kinda shocked at how similar David Brent's character is to Pilkington. It does make one wonder about a lot of things...
ReplyDeleteForget the podcasts and get the XFM shows.
