The Third Protocol Emblem [wiki] is recent addition to the Protective Signs [wiki] recognised by the Geneva Conventions, for use with medical and humanitarian efforts during a military conflict. It's origins stem from the disputes regarding the precieved religious, ethnic, and political connotations of the traditional Red Cross and Red Crescent symbols, and from a dispute the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement had with Israel's Magen David Adom national emergency service, which wanted to use the Shield of David symbol in international conflicts.
Ireland has signed Protocol III but not yet ratified it. [icrc.org]
I couldn't find any relevant images, so here's a mock-up of the Red Crystal in use.
